Dan Ingram's Favorite Aircheck!

During the "Dan Ingram Electric Radio Theater" on Rewound Radio several years ago, Dan' son Chris sent me what he called "A Nifty Find".
It was a photo of a reel to reel tape box that contained a tape that Dan himself used to archive of some of his WABC airchecks.

The box had various notations written by Dan about the various shows on the tape.
Next to the June 12, 1964 aircheck Dan wrote "I finally got the sound together in this show".

I was amazed to read that because that is the very aircheck that I have touted for years as "The best Musicradio WABC aircheck ever".
Seeing that notation from Dan himself was like a "high five"!

Chris then offered to send me the tape box... which he did.

Dan, in his own handwriting validating something I had been saying for decades.
How cool is that!

The WABC Studio: April, 1973

Chuck Leonard (left) and engineer Tom Zarecki with lots of company!

This is a terrific picture of the WABC studio.
It shows where the DJ sat, and how the engineer sat directly across the console.
It also demonstrates the large size of the studio and how many people could actually fit!

Here's a Chuck Leonard aircheck from the same month and year this photo was taken!

The Guys Who Made The WABC Promos!

Glenn Morgan (Production Director 1971-1979)
Dan Ingram (the voice on most of the promos)
Julian Breen (Production Director 1968-1971)
Jeff Berman (Production Director 1966-1968)

(photo taken by Allan Sniffen, October 2001)

Julian Breen was a great friend to this web site as well as an accomplished radio pro.
He was the production director at Musicradio WABC between 1968 and 1971.

In 1992, he recorded the following narrative illustrating some of the production he did at WABC.
It's a very interesting listen for any fan of the station.

Julian provides inside information, his thought processes in coming up with his work and how it was working with Dan Ingram.
Plenty of samples included!
